Coolangatta Tours
Coolangatta – the southernmost Gold Coast town – is neighboured right next to Tweed Heads in NSW, giving them the common moniker of the Twin Towns. In fact, the two towns are so close together that both are retirement regions, with local bars and restaurants offering seafood as their speciality, with a runway from Gold Coast Airport (formerly Coolangatta Airport) extending across the border into Tweed Heads territory.
Named after the schooner ‘Coolangatta’, that ran aground during a storm in 1846; Coolangatta has a slower pace than some Gold Coast areas, its laid-back style evident by the amount of surfers heading to the northern corner of Coolangatta Beach, or around the headland to Snapper Rocks, Rainbow Bay and Duranbah. There are also some lovely swimming spots in the area and peaceful walking trails that connect the beaches. Point Danger lookout is the perfect place to go whale watching.
Every June, the Cooly Rocks On Festival, is popular with tourists and locals alike, offering a two-week festival celebrating the 1950s and 60s, with revival bands, retro cars and entertainment. It's great fun for the whole family and well worth a visit if you're in Coolangatta or environs at the beginning of winter.
Coolangatta has a relaxed old world charm, with friendly locals who offer good old fashioned service and delightful accommodation, food and beverages in the myriad of hotels, cafes and bars that line the ocean front. Coolangatta is a great place to visit.
